Thomas Hobbs is a renowned Canadian horticulturist.  He is much admired for his plant knowledge and trendsetting garden design featured in many garden magazines.  Thomas is also an internationally known author.  He has written several great books.  Both the The Jewel Box and Shocking Beauty are well worth reading.  Thomas Hobbs and his partner, Brent Beattie, own and operate Southlands Nursery, near Southwest Marine Drive in Vancouver.  The 1.5 acre nursery is beautifully laid out, and stocked with an astonishing range of beautifully grown plants and great looking pots and urns of every description.

When Thomas Hobbs and partner Brent Beattie ran out of garden space after two decades in their Point Grey home, they spent a year looking in the Fraser Valley for a wider canvas on which to realize their dream garden.  There, close to the United States border, they found it:  a 20-acre farm now known as, simply, The Farm.  They transformed the former illegal marijuana grow-op site into a glorious estate of rolling lawns, complete with a man-made lake with view of Mount Baker in one direction, and Hereford calves gamboling in the spring of the neighbour’s farm.  The Farm has become Tom and Brent’s outdoor oasis.
