Jim Matsuyama and Robert Baranski are inviting club members (and friends) to come visit their garden high on top of Mt. Tuam.  With a stunning backdrop view of Mt. Baker towering behind islands seemingly floating in the sea, the garden ascends a steep sub-alpine meadow.  Wear appropriate foot gear, as the many winding garden paths will challenge balance and physical fitness.  You will not be able to resist maneuvering around every corner to view the large collection of Japanese Maple trees, irises, dahlias, daylilies, lilies, cannas, hostas and other perennials.  One of the largest collections of cactus and succulents on Salt Spring Island is sure to also delight visitors!

Heather’s note: Jim and Bob’s garden is one of the most impressive and inspiring gardens I have seen on the island. It is large, beautifully designed and laid out, with much attention given to detail; it is immaculately tended, and in a stunning setting.

Many thanks to Jim and Bob for their dedication to gardening, and for sharing their evolving creation with us.

Please consider sharing your garden with other club members, whenever you think is a good time for it and for you.  Please contact me through the website, or by phone: 250–653–9729.

Thank you.

Heather Martin.
